Dear Gallaudet community:
As you may recall, earlier this summer, we announced our Gallaudet Way Forward plan with three phases. We are still in Phase 1, remote learning and remote working.
For this fall, we will have a limited number of approved students who will be coming to stay on campus. These students will begin to arrive on campus on Wednesday, August 26. They will be required to:
- show that they have tested negative for COVID-19,
- complete COVID-19 training, and
- sign a pledge to adhere to behavioral expectations during these unusual times.
When these students arrive, they will have limited access on campus. First, the District of Columbia government requires that anyone coming from any COVID-19 “hot spot” be in quarantine for 14 days. As part of Gallaudet’s plan to allow students to be on campus during our Phase 1, all students will be required to quarantine for 14 days in their rooms. They will only have access to:
- their own residence hall room,
- the Student Health Service for medical access and testing when required,
- the Hanson Plaza Dining Hall to pick up food, and
- designated classrooms for our deafblind students who are approved to be on campus.
While we have students arriving on campus, we need to have a transition period of reduced access to ensure we are doing all we can to protect our essential employees, our students, and our entire community. As such, from August 26 through September 7 inclusive, we ask that ONLY essential employees and authorized groups be allowed to come onto campus when required. If you have any questions about your status as an essential employee or if you are part of an authorized group, please contact your manager or divisional leader.
As we move forward together to bring the best possible experience for all during these extraordinary times, we ask all non-essential employees to refrain from coming to campus from August 26 to September 7. This means that if some of you sometimes come to the office to work, pick up supplies or print something, please do so before August 26. Again, do not come to campus from August 26 to September 7. Clerc Center will continue as scheduled.
I want to thank all of you who have worked tirelessly to get Gallaudet ready for the new school year. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. Second, I want to stress the goal of this transition period is to ensure we minimize as much as possible people on campus to reduce risks to our overall community.
