Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the Gallaudet University Board of Trustees: Ms. Darian Burwell Gambrell, ’97 & G-’04; Dr. Nicole Snell, ’04; and Mr. Thomas Mulloy.
“The Board welcomes these three outstanding individuals, two of whom are alumni, to Gallaudet University and looks forward to having them join us for the first time at the October Board meeting. They possess the experience and wisdom to make immediate contributions in the areas of student success, academic success, and auditing,” said Board Chair Dr. Glenn B. Anderson, ’68 & H-’17.
Ms. Darian Burwell Gambrell, ’97 & G-’04
Ms. Gambrell attended Kendall Demonstration Elementary School and Gallaudet University. She was known at Gallaudet for her student-centered management; she oversaw the Office of Student Success and had a leadership role in the JumpStart and Peer Mentoring programs. She served as a special assistant for diversity relations during Dr. Robert Davila’s presidency and has since cultivated a reputation as an engaging facilitator on diversity and inclusion dialogues. Since 2017, she has been a manager at the Raleigh regional center of the North Carolina Division of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, which has seven regional centers across the state.
Dr. Nicole E. Snell, ’04
Dr. Snell currently teaches technical writing and communication at Arizona State University, and previously taught at Bentley University and Clemson University. Her service on many committees at both colleges include representing the faculty on the Student Affairs Committee of the Bentley University Board of Trustees. She has taught courses in crisis communication, public relations, and technical writing to undergraduate students, as well as English as a Second Language courses for international business students. Her research interests explore the intersections of captioning and access, new media, and power and privilege.
“I am pleased to see the addition of Ms. Gambrell and Dr. Snell to the Board of Trustees. Ms. Gambrell’s experience working with students will help ensure that we are focused on the student experience. Dr. Snell brings to the Board expertise in student learning environments, teaching practices, and curriculum development,” said Dr. Philip P. Kersetter, PhD ’85, chair of the Committee on Academic Quality and Student Success.
Mr. Mulloy works as Chief Accountant of a London Borough Council. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Audit Commission, working in the public sector audit field for more than 10 years, and subsequently joined Grant Thornton. Mr. Mulloy also serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees in London for the Royal Association for Deaf People. He is originally from Dublin, Ireland, and is a third-generation Deaf individual. He is a parent to a Deaf child
“Mr. Mulloy has extensive experience with accounting and auditing, and we welcome this perspective to the Board,” said Dr. Natwar Gandhi, chair of the Committee on Audit and Compliance.
The addition of these three new Trustees brings the Board to full capacity. Their profiles will be added to the Board of Trustees website.
