Dear Gallaudet and Clerc Center employees:

We have several updates to share with you all.

Annual leave carryover limit cutoff and floating day (for staff)

As previously communicated, Human Resources would like to send a friendly reminder that the last day for staff to use excess annual leave and floating day is September 13, 2020. As a staff member, you may carry up to 240 hours of annual leave into the new fiscal year. If you are unable to use your excess annual leave prior to September 13, 2020, please consider donating to the Leave Sharing Program. The form can be found through Adobe eSign in the library. The deadline to submit the form if you wish to donate your excess annual leave is September 13, 2020.

GU WIN (Employee Wellness Program)

As part of GU WIN, our goal is to encourage employees to focus on their well-being, especially during these difficult times in our lives. Human Resources will be hosting a Step It Up Challenge from October 5 to November 1. This is open to all Gallaudet employees regardless of status. We will be utilizing Wellable as a wellness program platform for this exciting challenge. With Wellable, you will have the opportunity to compete, explore new ways to create and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle, and qualify for exciting prizes.

How does it work? Employees will receive an email from Wellable within the next week. (If you do not receive the email, please be sure to check your spam folder). After receiving the email, sign up and connect your eligible apps and devices. You can use mobile apps or wearable devices. Instructions will be included in the email when you sign up to join Wellable.

The prizes will be:

First place: Fitbit Versa 2

Second place: Choice of holistic wellness goods through Snappy Gifts

Let’s all sign up and be Wellable!

Questions regarding payroll deferral tax

The Payroll Office received several inquiries about the Payroll Tax Deferral, which provides a temporary tax break for employees who earn less than $4,000 biweekly. Since it is not mandatory, the university is not participating in it at this time. The reason for this is because employees are expected to repay the amount due in early 2021. This will likely be financially difficult for some employees.

Benefits Open Season

The 2020 Benefits Open Season will run from Monday, November 9 to Monday, December 14. Open Season is an opportunity for employees to change, enroll, or re-enroll in health (FEHB), dental (FEDVIP), vision (FEDVIP) and flexible spending accounts (FSAFEDS) programs. Open Season will be different this year as it will be held virtually. More detailed information, including the new rates, will be shared next month.
