Dear Gallaudet Community:
We hope everyone has settled into a safe routine and is ready to reconnect in an online environment for the remainder of the semester. Gallaudet Technology Services has been working hard for the past few weeks to ensure that our services are up and running in order to support you in the work you continue to do. We are here for you. Let us know how we can help you with your technology needs by going to the IT Service Desk.
Here are some of the things we’ve been working on.
Do you need computers, computers, internet service, etc.? Employees who have desktops in their offices can bring their equipment home (with the approval of their Budget Unit Head). The University has acquired laptops, MiFi devices (personal hotspots), and webcams. GTS staff have been prepping the devices and preparing to distribute them on loan to students, faculty, and staff who need them. If you are not on campus, we will mail the equipment to you. If you need to borrow a laptop, MiFi, or webcam, please submit a request here.
GTS will be providing 24/7 support through the IT Service Desk. This afternoon we will launch a Virtual Agent feature to assist users with commonly asked questions. Users will be able to create tickets via the virtual agent or request to chat with one of the GTS agents.
Our eLearning team will also be publishing a schedule of workshops on a variety of topics including Zoom, Grade Center, and other relevant and timely subjects. Workshops will be listed on our GTS Calendar.
We encourage you to visit the IT Service Desk site and browse our Service Catalog and Knowledge Base for tips and information.
Adobe Creative Cloud is available free of charge for faculty and students to use on their at-home computer through May 31, 2020.https://bit.ly/2Uh2f5o
VirtualLab. We are working on providing faculty and students with a virtual lab where they can use specialized software packages including SPSS and more. https://virtuallab.gallaudet.edu
What you should do
If you are working on your personal computer/laptop and dealing with private data, be sure you have your antivirus and firewalls enabled and up to date. https://bit.ly/2WDZAnQ
Set up away messages on your phone and/or videophone with information on how to contact you.
Check and update your department website for current information such as office hours and contact information.
Keep up with the latest announcements and updates from GTS.

Even with all the preparations we have made, we won’t always get it right. This is a learning experience for all of us. Our goal is to implement new norms, help rebuild our campus community, and get used to this new way of teaching, learning, and working.
