Dear Gallaudet community:

As we have shared previously, the University has engaged an outside firm, Hogan Lovells, to conduct an external assessment of the Department of Public Safety (DPS). The assessment will evaluate current DPS practices, measure those practices against best practices, and provide recommendations for improving DPS and ensuring that it effectively serves and protects the Gallaudet community. We will use this assessment as an opportunity to transform how we think about public safety, community problem-solving, social justice, and anti-racism on campus.

Paramount among the goals of this assessment is to foster trust and understanding between DPS and the University community. To do that, we would like to hear from you.

Please join Hogan Lovells for a virtual town hall regarding your experiences with DPS. Hogan Lovells would like to hear about your ideas and recommendations for improving DPS practices and trust within the community. They are looking forward to a candid conversation with you. University leadership will not be in attendance.

You may choose to participate in one of two town hall sessions, which will last one and one-half hours each:

  • Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. to noon ET
  • Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. ET
