Fall 2020 Plans for The Laurent Clerc Center National Deaf Education Center
The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center’s (Clerc Center) top priority is the health, safety, and wellness of students, families, and school personnel. Like Gallaudet, the Clerc Center will be starting the school year virtually, providing online instruction to PK-12 students through Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) and Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD).
Clerc Center’s enhancements
During this period we are here and available to help you achieve success and navigate your academic experience. We remain committed to providing you the support needed to be safe, healthy, and successful. As the situation continues to evolve, we will keep you updated here, by email, and on social media with resources to take care of yourself and be strong, together!
The Clerc Center’s enhancements to remote student learning and engagement include:
- professional development opportunities for teachers and staff
- new tools and systems to support bilingual instruction at all grade levels
- offerings for social engagement for students to support maintaining connections with friends and to ensure access to regular language and communication opportunities.

KDES and MSSD Learning Resources
MSSD and KDES teachers have worked hard to create a collection of resources in order to provide learning opportunities that you and your children can explore at home. Some are games and fun for the whole family; others are deeper learning experiences that students can navigate on their own. We will continue to expand our library on the learning portal and will adapt and modify our offerings over time. Enjoy these educational activities–from our screens to yours!
No. Clerc Center will begin with remote instruction, with the most likely scenario being they will remain fully online for the first semester, through mid-January 2021.
